SYSTEMINFO (System Information)
Sometimes you need to check your PC’s specs, the OS version, or the installed hotfixes.
The SYSTEMINFO command lists system information for a Windows PC in one place. It reports the OS version and build number, installed memory, last boot time, and installed updates (KB numbers), and you can save the output from a batch file as a record.
SYSTEMINFO collects data from WMI and other sources, so it can take anywhere from a few seconds to tens of seconds to print its result. Avoid calling it repeatedly in a batch file; run it once and reuse the output through a variable or a file.
Basic Usage
systeminfo
Main Fields
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Host Name | Computer name |
| OS Name | Name of the OS |
| OS Version | OS version including the build number |
| System Manufacturer | PC manufacturer |
| Processor(s) | CPU information |
| Total Physical Memory | Total installed memory |
| Network Card(s) | Network adapter information |
| Hyper-V Requirements | Virtualization support |
| Hotfix(s) | Installed Windows updates |
| Original Install Date | When the OS was installed |
| System Boot Time | When the PC was last started |
Extracting Specific Information
The SYSTEMINFO output is long, so it helps to combine it with findstr and extract only what you need.
Field names such as “OS Name” and “System Boot Time” change with the Windows display language. The findstr search strings below are for English Windows; on a Japanese system the fields appear as “OS 名” and “システム起動時間”. If your script has to work on any language, consider the PowerShell approach described later.
Check OS Information
Using /B in findstr matches only at the start of a line, which prevents lines that contain “OS” in the middle, such as BIOS Version, from slipping in.
systeminfo | findstr /B /C:"OS"

Check Memory Information
systeminfo | findstr /C:"Memory"
Check the Boot Time
systeminfo | findstr /C:"Boot Time"
To see when the PC was last started, systeminfo | findstr /C:"Boot Time" gives a quick answer. It is also handy for checking server uptime. Note that on PCs with Fast Startup enabled, a shutdown does not fully power off the machine, so the boot time may not match the time you actually turned the PC on.
Main Options
| Option | Description |
|---|---|
/FO format | Specifies the output format (TABLE / LIST / CSV) |
/NH | Hides the header (TABLE and CSV only) |
/S computer | Retrieves information from a remote computer |
/U user /P password | Account used for the remote connection (with /S) |
Specifying the Output Format
Use the /FO option to change the output format.
systeminfo /fo csv > system_info.csv
| Format | Option | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Table | /FO TABLE | Table format (default) |
| List | /FO LIST | List format |
| CSV | /FO CSV | CSV format |
Practical Examples
Save System Information to a File
@echo off
setlocal
set OUTPUT=C:\Logs\sysinfo_%COMPUTERNAME%.txt
echo Collecting system information...
systeminfo > "%OUTPUT%"
echo Saved to: %OUTPUT%
endlocal
List Installed Hotfixes
systeminfo | findstr /R /C:"KB[0-9]"
This shows the KB numbers of installed Windows updates (hotfixes). Searching for just "KB" can also match unrelated text, so this example uses a regular expression to keep only lines where KB is followed by digits.
Get Information from a Remote Computer
systeminfo /s SERVER01
Running it against a remote PC requires administrator rights on the target and a firewall configuration that allows remote management.
Getting It with PowerShell
PowerShell’s Get-ComputerInfo lets you pull out only the values you need by property name, which is the same regardless of the OS display language.
powershell -NoProfile -Command "Get-ComputerInfo -Property OsName,OsVersion,OsLastBootUpTime"
This is useful when a batch file needs the boot time independent of the language.

Summary
The SYSTEMINFO command shows hardware information, OS information, network settings, and more in one go. Combined with findstr, you can efficiently extract just the information you need.
